Why Use Sheet Materials

Sheet materials are a practical choice when you need wide coverage, consistent thickness, and cost-effective results. They’re easy to store, quick to fit, and suitable for everything from structural work to interior finishes.

  • MDF sheets are ideal for boxing in, shelving, and painted joinery
  • Furniture board is commonly used for cupboard backs, carcasses, and internal storage units
  • OSB board (18 mm) offers strength for roofing, flooring, and sheathing
  • Plywood sheets, including oak and veneered types, suit visible joinery, built-in units, and boxing work
  • Phenolic film plywood is a hard-wearing option for shuttering, trailer floors, and other demanding surfaces

Most boards come in 2440 x 1220 mm and are easy to cut to size on-site.

Sheet Materials FAQs

  1. What sizes do your sheet materials come in?
Most sheets are stocked in 2440 x 1220 mm, with thickness options ranging from 6 mm up to 25 mm depending on the material.
  2. Do you stock OSB board in 18 mm?
Yes. We regularly stock 18 mm OSB boards, which are widely used in roofing, flooring and general structural work.
  3. What’s the difference between MDF and furniture board?
MDF is dense and smooth, ideal for painting or detailed joinery. Furniture board is lighter and often laminated, used for carcasses and storage units.
  4. Can I use veneered plywood for cabinet work?
Yes. Veneered or oak plywood is commonly used in cabinet making, where a finished face is needed but full hardwood is not required.
  5. Do you deliver sheet materials outside of Scunthorpe?
We deliver within a 45-mile radius of our branch in Scunthorpe. Orders over £500 plus VAT qualify for free delivery.
