Why Use Treated Planed Timber

Planed treated timber gives you a smooth, finished face with built-in protection against rot and insect attack, making it a practical choice for exposed outdoor work where appearance matters.

  • 25 x 63mm and 25 x 75mm boards suit privacy screens, slatted screening, and light battening
  • 25 x 100mm (1" x 4") works well for fascias, soffits, and cladding
  • 25 x 150mm (1" x 6") is a common choice for wider cladding boards and decorative screening
  • 100 x 100mm (4" x 4") PSE posts suit pergolas, screen frames, and structural garden uprights
  • Planed softwood cuts, drills, and sands like any other timber, so it is straightforward to work on site

The pressure treatment protects against rot and decay, but always seal any cut ends or drilled holes with an end-grain preservative to keep that protection intact.

Treated Planed Timber FAQs

What sizes does your treated planed timber come in?

We stock 25mm boards in 63mm, 75mm, 100mm, and 150mm widths, plus a 100 x 100mm PSE post. All are FSC® certified planed softwood. Contact us if you need a size not listed online.

What is the difference between treated planed timber and rough sawn treated timber?

Planed timber is machined smooth on all faces with rounded edges for a clean finish. Rough sawn is left with a coarser surface. Both are pressure treated, but planed suits work where appearance matters.

Can treated planed timber be used outside?

Yes. It is pressure treated to protect against rot and insect attack, so it is suited to exposed outdoor use such as cladding, screening, and fascias. Seal any cut ends with an end-grain preservative.

Is treated planed timber the same as PSE or PAR?

Yes. PSE (planed square edge) and PAR (planed all round) both describe timber machined smooth on all four faces. Our treated planed range is supplied this way with rounded corners.

Do you deliver treated planed timber outside of Scunthorpe?

We deliver within a 65-mile radius of our Scunthorpe branch using our own fleet. Orders over £500 plus VAT qualify for free delivery.
