Why Use Treated Sleepers
Treated sleepers are a practical, hard-wearing choice for landscaping and structural garden work. The pressure treatment pushes preservative into the timber, so the sleepers stand up to ground contact, moisture and pests far better than untreated softwood.
- Green treated softwood sleepers suit retaining walls, raised beds and general garden landscaping
- Brown treated sleepers offer the same protection with a darker, more natural finish for visible features
- Untreated oak sleepers work well where a natural look is wanted, or where chemical treatments are not suitable
- 100 x 200mm sections are a popular all-round size for edging, borders and low walls
- 120 x 250mm sections give extra strength for taller retaining walls and load-bearing builds
Sleeper brackets, support spikes and corner pins are also stocked to help you fix and brace your build.

Treated Sleepers FAQs
What sizes do your treated sleepers come in?
Our sleepers come in 2.4m and 3.0m lengths. Common sections are 100 x 200mm and 120 x 250mm. Pop into the branch or call us if you need help choosing the right size for your build.
What is the difference between green and brown treated sleepers?
Both are pressure-treated softwood sleepers with the same level of protection against rot and insects. The difference is colour: green is the standard finish, brown gives a darker, more natural look.
Can I use treated sleepers for a retaining wall?
Yes. Treated sleepers are a common choice for retaining walls, raised beds and steps. Heavier sections such as 120 x 250mm give added strength for taller or load-bearing walls.
Do you stock untreated sleepers?
Yes. We stock untreated oak sleepers for projects that need a natural look, or where pressure-treated timber is not suitable. These sit alongside our treated softwood range.
Do you deliver sleepers outside of Scunthorpe?
We deliver within a 65-mile radius of our Scunthorpe branch. Orders over £500 plus VAT qualify for free delivery within that area.
